EU Mobility Week 2017
15th to 24th September.
A Culture Cycle, Park(ing) day, launch of the “GoCar” initiative, Westport Walks Weekdays, World Car Free Day, shuttle train, carbon cycles and balance bikes are all part of this year’s EU Mobility Week celebrations. 15th to 24th September.
Cycling, walking, park(ing), learning and fun events will all be part of this year’s EU Mobility Week celebrations in Westport. The week begins with the launch of the “GoCar” initiative in Westport. GoCar is a community car initiative where users can book cars online for as little as an hour! A “Carbon Walk” excursion to make a link between the carbon cycle, nature, travel and climate change will take place on Monday 18th. On Tuesday 19th a Balance Bike Day will take place in Sharkey Hill playschool. Wednesday 20th will see the return of Westport Walks Weekdays where schools and workplaces will promote sustainable travel. Thursday is International Park(ing) day where people can enjoy a new mini park! Also on Thursday the EPA will give a workshop highlighting the link between Air Pollution and Traffic. Friday 22nd is World Car Free day and there will be a free shuttle train running from the Quay to the town centre. Friday is also Culture Night and Westport Smarter Travel are hosting a unique cycle tour of all the premises in Westport.
Eco-Congregation Westport are also encouraging parishioners to walk and cycle to church on Sunday 24th which corresponds with the Season of Creation.
Mobility Week will finish on Sunday with the fantastic Covie Street Carnival to celebrate Westport’s 250th birthday. Bridge Street will be a pedestrian only zone from 8am to 8pm. Workshops, air pollution talks, launch of new infrastructural projects and competitions will also we held throughout the week.
